Pheromones: Love Is In The Air… or Not?

It seems from the dawn of mankind both sexes have been trying to find a secret way of attracting the opposite sex. There are numerous books written for men to teach them “the art of picking up women” as well as books written for women instructing them on “the art of flirting”. These subliminal “Jedi mind tricks” are designed to help us get what we want without directly asking.

Being Sexy

One definition for the word “sexy” is anything that arouses sexual desire or interest.

Unfortunately there’s one caveat, we don’t all agree on what is sexy.

What is sexy to one person may be tacky or slutty to another person.

Another point to consider is people you don’t want to attract will also take an interest in you. There is no way of saying, “I wore this outfit to attract only him or her.”

Flirting

What makes flirting fun is it allows you to test the waters sort of speak to see if an opportunity exists to connect with someone. If for whatever reason you get shut down you can always say you were joking or just having fun. “I can’t believe you thought I was serious!”

On the other hand if the person flirts back gradually you raise the stakes. You may use a little more sexual innuendo and playfully dare each other to engage in some type of activity. Eventually laughter transitions to “a moment” where eyes connect and a kiss follows. It’s been said, “The kiss is the persuasion to lower invasion”

Aphrodisiacs & Spells

There are those of us who may be more introverted or less comfortable with flirting. Never fear there are more books that offer you tips on how to get that special someone to fall under your spell. Keep in mind the use of excessive alcohol; roofies, and various other recreational drugs fall under the category of Date Rape and not Seduction.

Other substances such as chocolate, tomatoes, strawberries, oysters, asparagus, and the “engagement chicken dinner” may be fun to try but I wouldn’t suggest you turn down the covers right away. To my knowledge there has been no food or substance that has been scientifically proven to make someone want to have sex with just anyone in his or her presence. An old man once told me: “In America the only real aphrodisiac is money.”

Scents & Sense

For over ten or more years the cosmetics industry has been making more and more products smell like food. (Strawberries, Cucumbers, Bananas, Chocolate, Vanilla, Apple, Cinnamon, Pears, Oranges, Coconut Lime, Watermelon, Cherries, Lemon, and Pineapple…etc)

I would imagine the scent of (steak and potato) can’t be too far away from hitting store shelves. Whoever said, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” should be held responsible. The only thing the words Horny and Hungry have in common is they both begin with H and end in Y. Unless there is a way to induce a Pavlov dog type of experiment where each time a person smelt a particular scent he or she was given an orgasm chances are the smell of food is not going to arouse a sexual response.

It’s unlikely the smell of homemade cookies is going to kill Viagra sales anytime soon.

Even in the case of Viagra the man takes the drug because he wants to have sex!

Desperation Leads To Gullibility

Pheromone products are the latest tools marketed to attract love into our lives. I had to pick myself off of the floor as I laughed at the following testimonials.

The mind does not lose its reasoning capability due to a scent.

An odor we find offensive may drive us away but one we like doesn’t make us throw caution to the winds.

Save your money.

Forget about magic tricks and potions.

Be Yourself

Dress in what makes YOU feel comfortable.

Wear scents YOU find appealing

Cook and prepare meals YOU enjoy

Ultimately the goal in life is to find someone who loves and adores us for who we are.
